Bathroom Cleaner DIY

Bathroom CleanerOK, I found this on Pinterest and no matter how much searching I did, I could NOT find where it originated from!

This recipe is a no-rinse recipe! YES! LESS work! πŸ™‚

Anywho, like any self-respecting Canadian, I had to get this recipe into cups measurements, so here goes!

(8oz) 1 cup vinegar

(10 oz) 1 1/4 cup water

(4 oz) 1/2 cup lemon juice

(2 oz) 1/4 cup liquid soap (use Dawn)

2 tsp Baking Soda

pour into spray bottle, done! πŸ™‚

YAY YAY! I am so gonna try this!!

~July 13 2013 Ok, Update on having actually tried this CRAZY recipe!! Seriously, I had a volcano-like eruption and you would have DIED laughing if you’d heard me in the kitchen!! I don’t know who came up with this, but SERIOUSLY?! I am wondering if it was someone’s April fools joke that took off on Pinterest before people could realize it’s a JOKE! πŸ˜€ hahaha!!

Anyhow, I did use a little of what was left of it once it had finished erupting and it works great!

I had some great discussion on Facebook about possible fixes and uses for the original recipe though:

Original recipe:

~use in oven as cleaner

~use in drains

To FIX this recipe so you aren’t tossing 3/4 of it down the drain:

~cut the lemon juice and baking soda in half and that should do the trick! I’ll letΒ  you know when I next try this! πŸ™‚

Just an FYI- I’ve read on several blogs that you should not mix vinegar and soap in a cleaner. If I remember it correctly, the acid in the vinegar unsaponifies the soap, basically cancelling each other out. You can add tea tree oil to soap mixture for germ killing. I use vinegar/water 1:1 ratio, you can add essential oils for extra germ fighting and to smell prettier πŸ™‚ I’ve also read that hydrogen peroxide is good for germ killing/cleaning.

Thank you Carol! I’ve heard that too, but don’t know how true that is!

What ever it is that mixing soap and vinegar does, it WORKS and WAY better than using one or the other! lol πŸ˜€

TOTALLY cuts the hard water and soap deposits and cleans better than CLR!

I mixed the original recipe in the order it was written and I had the kitchen volcano…I decided to try the recipe again only adding all of the liquid first and then the soda and it worked great. The water dilutes the vinegar just enough that the mixture doesn’t have the huge bubble reaction. Only thing is I cannot find the original recipe. Do you have the original still…if not I will use yours! Thanks

    • Christine says:

that’s how I did it too Shelly!! lol πŸ˜€ No idea why it worked for you and not for me, weird!

The recipe I posted above IS the original recipe. At the bottom I say to use 1/2 the lemon juice and baking soda, but I haven’t tried it yet. let me know how it goes!! πŸ™‚

If a person uses a cleaner with vinegar on the toilet seat, and later sits on the toilet seat, will
    this block the Guai?

    • Christine says:

oh Stacy! So sorry I missed your comments for some reason! I suddenly took on some Foster kids and it’s been such a whirlwind! lol!
nope, vinegar on the toilet seat won’t block you πŸ™‚ Same as the cleaner you use in the shower, by the time you run the water, the little bit that might have blockers, goes down the drain πŸ™‚ Way to think this through!

  4. Stacy says:

I heard lemon juice spoils very quickly, so does all of this formula need to be used up immediately? Or do the other ingredients keep it from spoiling?

Leave a lovely comment! I read and respond to all comments here and love to hear from you! <3
