Castor Oil and Salicylates

I get ALOT of people asking about Castor oil. This is why I am covering it here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Castor oil, if you were to look it up, you would find that it is a plant oil. And we all know that a plant name with oil, gel or extract will block the Guaifenesin. So yes, Castor Oil will block the Guaifenesin from working.

Sorry, but your information is incorrect. Castor oil is not “pure salicylates” — that’s not even common sense. In fact many vegetable oils have no or almost no salicylates (like canola, sunflower, safflower oils), and castor oil is used as an antidote to phenol (salicylate) poisoning.

Hi Kelly, thank you for your comment! Yep, you are right, I should have used different wording with that ๐Ÿ™‚ It has alot of sals though and is sure worth the attention if you can’t have salicylates! I am not a doctor or claim to be, or a scientist to tell one way other other, all I know is what the other experts have told me, and that’s what I’m sticking with, but thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for all you do to cover all these “tricky” areas! You rock!

Thanks Christine, Can you site the experts your referencing so I can read their research as well. Thanks

        • Christine says:

The experts I have learned from is mostly from the book by Dr St Amand and Claudia Merek called “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia” It’s an excellent book on everything you need to know about fibro! Even if you don’t follow the protocol he lays out in this book, you will understand fibro so much more ๐Ÿ™‚

    How about prune juice

  3. Anonymous says:

Is it ok to drink prune juice juice on guaifenesin protocol

    • Christine says:

yep, foods are all find on the protocol. As long as it’s in normal food amounts, you’re good!
The only things to watch for are mint, and concentrated plant stuff in mg amounts. And Be careful of JUICING. Not the same as normal juice. Juicing is where you take fruits and veggies and squeeze all the juices out, leaving the pulp behind, so you would be getting concentrated plant stuff. This is not a normal food amount. You would not normally be able to eat that many carrots or other veggies etc. Does that help?

I looked high and low and castor oil does NOT contain salicylates–either salicylic acid or methyl salicylate. in face in one case of castor oil poisoning (500ml injected into the skin during a plastic surgery procedure by an unlicensed unprofessional) the patient had zero detectable levels of salicylica acid in his system when he was brought to the hospital in respiratory and cardiac distress. Also i could not find information on salicylic acid content in coconut oil. it has many fatty acids, but no salicylic. I am a doctor and did look it up in general information and scholarly texts. Perhaps you are sensitive to more than just salicylates if you have a reaction to these items. please don’t give out false information.

Wow you DID do some serious research, that’s awesome! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for sharing your info with me!

I am not a doctor or a chemist so I really dont know how salicylates come from plants, I just know that Dr St Amand did the work to figure this out and that it will block the guaifenesin from working to reverse our symptoms of fibromyalgia. He wrote a medical paper for doctors, and since you are into researching stuff, check this out! ๐Ÿ™‚ Here’s the link:
