God made that happen, didn’t He, mom?

so it rained… and rained. And rained some more. We got approx 105mm of rain in 24hours. We were blessed, we only got a few feet of water in our crawl space, might have ruined the hot water heater and furnace, but we are drying them out and will try to get them working again. park at Dawson flood

That river there is what I endearingly call the Dawson Ditch, because 99% of the time, that is what it looks like. Certainly not a creek, forget the raging river you see here. Gotta love kids thoughts on life. There’s this car teetering on the edge of a road that got washed out.

One of the boys says, “God made that happen, didn’t He, mom?”

As I sat there trying to come up with something that would make sense to their 7yr old brains, I was reminded of God’s grace to us. That He DOES give us a choice. We can choose whether to inch our way through the water crossing the road, and possibly be swept away or go back another way where there’s no flooding.

The boys have been saying all day, “I’m so thankful that car didn’t fall.”

God IS the one who makes things happen. But He’s also the one that gives us choices, allows us to choose whether to love him or turn our backs on Him. Without the ability to choose, there is no ability to love. You can’t force someone to love you.

I am so thankful that God is a God who allows us to choose. To rage at Him when we don’t get what He’s doing. To cry to Him when we need a huge shoulder to cry on. And to worship Him when we remember that He is the Almighty God of the Universe that can make things happen.

  1. Christine, I am so proud of you! You are raising your children to be aware of God’s blessings and power. Your sons’ comment brought tears to my eyes. God bless you and keep you and your family safe.

    Well said!

    C. S. Lewis wrote about Aslan the god-like lion, “He’s not safe but he’s good”. I’m finding that there are rich treasures in the trials, if we will look for them and wait for them.

so true! to know Jesus is to know his Justice and His Holiness while remembering His love and grace. You can’t separate one attribute of God from another or put one as more important than another. 🙂 And I love C.S. Lewis! His movies totally inspired me!!
