This stuff is SO AMAZING, I so had to share it with you, I’m still in total shock over how AWESOMELY it cleans, how much CHEAPER it is and how EASY it is to make! CRAZY!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Skip on down to the bottom for the outside window cleaner instructions ๐Ÿ™‚

We have terrible hard water issues and soap scum on our shower walls, esp since I am too sick to clean it usually. I am learning

how to do a little at a time now, check out this post: Getting my house clean with Fibromyalgia.ย I’ve used CLR on my shower, and had to do a total cleaning 2 or 3 times to get it clean. THIS recipe? ONE coat is all it needs!

Easy 1 Penny Homemade Laundry Soap

Easy 1 Penny Homemade Laundry Soap

OK, here’s the easiest soap scum and hard water remover you’ve ever seen:

1/2 cup vinegar, heated in microwave

1/2 cup blue Dawn liquid dish soap (in the UK? Try Fairy Liquid! And let me know how it goes!) On the Guaifenesin Protocol? Please wear gloves to protect yourself from that Blue Dye.

stir, pour into spray bottle, Spray on, walk away ๐Ÿ™‚

I left mine for about 6 hours, went to work and came home with a nice smelling house and yucky dry blue stuff on my shower. I was concerned it would be just another layer to have to clean off later, but ALAS! It Works! (BTW, it DOES have a strong smell when you first spray it on- so make sure your fan is running in your bathroom!)

Blue Dawn dish soap for bathroom cleaner. Hard water and soap scum remover!I found this awesome squeegee at the Dollar Store for my windows and figured it was perfect for this job too!! So I sprayed onto my dry Squeegee some of the cleaner, and wiped up my shower, all it needed was some moistening. No elbow grease or scrubbing required! Then I sprayed it all down with my shower head, and it didn’t even streak! It was like those car washes with the spot free rinse ๐Ÿ˜€ I am SUPER excited about this, can you tell???

AMAZING I tell ya!!!!!!

UPDATE: I have recently tried this as a toilet cleaner and for the bathroom sink, all with FABULOUS results! One cleaner for everything! YES! ๐Ÿ˜€

Take a peak at these other great homemade recipes for cleaning that work at LEAST as well, if not better than the store bought stuff: Homemade Easy Laundry Soap and Homemade Dishwasher Tabs.

Cleaning outside windows:

UPDATE Sept 2014: I used this to clean my outside widows, after trying EVERYTHING else to get the hard water stains from watering the lawn, and also tree sap gets on there. THIS cleaner took it off awesomely!! ๐Ÿ˜€ SqueegeeJust wipe it on and leave it to dry while you wipe all the windows around your house. I even cleaned the inside windows before going back outside. Then when I went outside, I wet it all down with a hose, wiped again with my squeegee foamy side and then washed it all off with a hose, then I went and squeegeed all the water off. NO streaks or anything. Best cleaner ever! And with no elbow grease or razors! ha! ๐Ÿ˜€

Found this on Pinterest and lately on One Good Thing By Jillee as usual, she has pictures of the whole process, which I can’tย  be bothered to do! lol ๐Ÿ˜€

Tried this and had a soapy mess in the shower. Should I not have used a wet sponge and just used my squeege?

    • Christine says:

Hi Mike ๐Ÿ™‚ it will totally soap up, as it does, it lifts the soap scum and hard water deposits right off the surface! I sponge it down, then just rinse it with the shower hose, I don’t even use my squeege in the shower ๐Ÿ™‚ It beads right off for me!

  2. Valerie says:

When you used the cleaner in the toilet, did you add it to the water in the bowl or get of the water? Thanks!

  3. Dee says:

Hi, I am really wanting to try this recipe but I have never seen Dawn liquid here in the UK. would you happen to know what the equivalent is here. Thanks in advance. Dee

    • Christine says:

oh, no I don’t know! But from what I understand, the reason it works so well is because it is extra concentrated grease-cutting power, so find a dishsoap like that and give it a try! (then come and tell me what kind if it works so I can share!! ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks!

I think Fairy liquid in the UK is the closest to Dawn. I am from the UK and now live in Canada and find that Dawn is the closest match. Hope that helps!

        • Christine says:

awesome! Thank you for sharing! I will suggest it! ๐Ÿ™‚ Have you used the Fairy liquid in this recipe yet? Or not been back to the UK enough? ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks I’ll try it. I was just at the store trying to find a solution that isn’t toxic.

    • Christine says:

totally! My bigger concern though, is that it would WORK! lol! I used so many different cleaners on that stuff and couldn’t get it off! Love finding these great diy cleaners! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have used the window cleaner and it is fabulous!! We have hard water, and I tried the mixture
but all it did was run down the wall. Why couldn’t you make it thicker and use a sponge?
    Please advise.

    • Christine says:

      Hi Loretta! ๐Ÿ™‚
We have really hard water too! I use a spray bottle and it covers ok, yep it totally runs, but as long as it covers the area, it works! You could spray it on and use a sponge (don’t water it down with a wet sponge) to wipe it around so it covers everything. And then just leave it for a few hours. Making it thicker would mean adding something to it, thus making it less strong.
Hope it works for you! ๐Ÿ™‚
