14 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
One of the things that caught my attention was the understanding of to whom was the debt. The debt Paul has is not to God, as though God gave Him something that He was expected to repay. Paul knows there is NO WAY on this green earth he could begin to even remotely be capable of repayment for the HUGE gift of Grace that God gave in His Son. The debt was to PEOPLE! The the Greeks and Barbarians, wise and unwise. In other words- to EVERY PERSON.
I CANNOT have it in my mind that I need to be busy somehow attempting to repay God. That nullifies Grace! It cheapens grace, as though I am on some similar playing feild as God and capable of paying back something so huge. NOT POSSIBLE. and I LOVE this! GOD DID THAT!!!
This very fact of God’s PERFECT Grace should cut me to the heart to the point that it does cause change! “To the obedience of faith.”
Somehow, this Grace that God has extended to someone so unworthy- ME. My heart should be so overflowing with thankfulness and awe that I simply can’t help myself but to go and share it with the world! That is the obedience of the faith. Where faith consumes me and cuts to the heart so that I can’t NOT share it- obedience.
EVERYONE who has received grace is a debtor to everyone else! That’s just the way it is. There is no debt between me and God. God has given ALL and there is no possibility of repayment, nor was there ever a way that I qualified for it. “27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” 1 Cor 1:27
it’s BEAUTIFUL. God’s grace is BEAUTIFUL! I worship Him for all HE has done and His beautiful un-merrited Grace.
What have YOU been learning lately? has God been speaking to you of His grace? are you moved and changed by it? does it bring obedience?
