Salicylate safe Mosquito Repellant

A friend shared the following recipe with me for mosquito repellant, I haven’t tried it yet, but will soon as it’s warm enough for mosquitos! πŸ˜€ Let me know what you think if you try it!

Mosquito Repellent

Palmolive Original

Palmolive Original

One tsp. soybean oil
ΒΌ tsp. Palmolive Original liquid soap (Original one is sal-free)
1 cup water
Mix, pour into a spray bottle and spray on.

**Oct 2017 update: This summer I used just Palmolive original and rubbed it in like lotion. Totally works for me! πŸ™‚

I’ve also heard of putting a Bounce sheet in your pocket, supposed to keep mosquitos away, and the upside? Makes you smell like fresh laundry! YEAH! πŸ˜€

There are these bug-repellant clip ons that you just clip to your clothes that are supposed to work as well. It’s not touching your skin, so should also be sal-safe πŸ™‚

Off Deep Woods Sportsmen. Possibly salicylate safe.

And OFF! Deep Woods have alot of salicylates in the fragrance ingredients, I would not risk using these. There is one without fragrance that looks safe so far, check out OFF! Deep Woods Sportsmen, in a little pump. I used this in Africa, when it was super important to have one that works, with all the malaria mosquitos over there. It’s a really good brand.

Palmolive original? Green color? There are so many flavors now?

Green dye has salicylates in it doesn’t it? We are new to figuring all of this out but we avoid anything that’s not clear.

Hi Grace! I’ve never heard of that! Where did you get that info from, I’m very curious now! πŸ™‚ What are you finding green dye in that you are putting on your skin?

    • Christine says:

oh- and good job being safe rather than sorry! πŸ™‚ Personally I wouldn’t worry about green dye, when I did a little research it came up as being iffy, but mostly for people who are sensitive to chemicals more than for people who can’t have salicylates. Are you going salicylate free for the guaifenesin protocol? Because that makes a big difference too!
If your green dye is called a green plant dye or something with a plant name in it, then maybe it’s something to think about, but I’ve never seen that! Usually dyes are SUPER watered down anyways so I wouldn’t worry about it πŸ™‚
Stick with the Sal, Camph, Menth and plant oils, gels, extracts, etc as being your ingredients to watch out for. Have you seen my other posts on salicylates?

Hi! How are you sure that Off bug spray does not have Salicylates. They wont even reveal their list of ingredients to the public. If you know for sure that would be great!
