Toxins and the Guaifenesin Protocol

Toxins and the Guaifenesin Protocol

Toxins and the Guaifenesin Protocol

I started asking myself what has changed in the last few years on the protocol:

  • I found this super yummy sugar free ice cream that I have often (with all the nasty sugar alternatives.
  • Using Splenda without any concern for the health risks.
  • Prior to the protocol I was on so many pain meds.
  • I took different HRT’s because of my hysterectomy, which have been proven to causecancer.
  • My body started to scream at me when I started on some Bio-identical Hormones, which are not a cancer risk and really do help everyone else.
  • We are eating way more veggies (and not washing them.)
  • We had mold in our house this winter.
  • I went on antibiotics 3 times for my bronchitis and sinusitis (which hasn’t gone away after 8 months.) Turns out my doc prescribed them for me when he ‘knew’ it was just viral infection, not bacterial, so he apparently ‘knew’ it wouldn’t work. Thanks for that.

Prior to the Guaifenesin Protocol to treat my fibromyalgia, I began to make my own beauty products, and still do! (Christine’s Homemade Creations) I was so concerned about the toxins in everything and what the industry uses to make products feel and look better. I used alot of natural stuff, full of healthy salicylates.Β

For those of you on the Guaifenesin Protocol, you know we can not have salicylates in our products if we want the Guaifenesin to work to reverse our Fibromyalgia symptoms. For this reason, I really stopped worrying so much about it, because I believed that all my symptoms were from fibromyalgia.

BUT! You DO need to be careful not to go overboard on this! It was such a relief to me, that I threw caution to the wind and over-did it on the unhealthy stuff, esp the sugar-free foods on the Hypoglycemia diet.

I have gotten a plethora of tests done recently. Things are not looking good for the rest of my body. Thyroid, Adrenals and all my hormones are totally not doing well, not to mention the amount of weight gain, while on the HG diet, mostly strict! How can that be?!

Tox SickI believe toxins are the issue for me. All this stuff has been piling up in my system, damaging all the organs. I read part of the book by Suzanne Sommers called Tox-Sick.

Excellent book about all the toxins we live with and the damage it can do to your body. This started me on a journey to find what can work to detox our fibro bodies on the Guaifenesin Protocol. If you have fibro, you are likely toxic from all the meds you’ve been on to get by, not to mention the many other toxic factors in our lives. What do we breathe? What do we eat? What do we touch?

As I mentioned, I am still working through this book, while researching how to detox without all the herbs and blockers she suggests. As well as learning how to support my adrenals and thyroid that are apparently doing very poorly.Β  We can’t be taking the green tea and all the herbs like milk thistle daily to slowly detox, we kinda need to figure out a way to detox and still keep clearing on the guaifenesin protocol.

organic1-3 of 6 detox changes you can do now to get started:

  1. ALWAYS wash your veggies and fruits in water and vinegar. Just dump them all in your kitchen sink, use about 1 cup vinegar in a sink of water. Set the timer for 30mins. Then drain and you’re done! πŸ™‚ And PLEASE stay away from these dangerous non-organic foods: Strawberries, cucumbers, peppers, celery, apples. Those are the worst ones to buy non-organic. Other non-organic fruits and veggies, if you clean them very well, are less toxic. Check out This Slow Life. com for more on Organic.
  2. Drink lots of water with fresh lemon juice, known to naturally support your detoxification processes in your body. I actually buy organic lemons, dump them in my food processor whole, and process them to a pulp. Use a couple Tsp. On the HG diet, I use this as my fruit serving in a glass of water in the morning before my breakfast. I found that having it in my water all day long was too much sugar or carbs on the HG diet. Check out this post for more on lemon water: water benefits health.com
  3. SKIP the nasty artificially sweetened stuff with ingredients like Splenda and aspertame. If you are not on the HG diet, stay away from sugars of any kind as well as corn (usually Genetically Modified GMO) and all simple carbs- esp the white stuff- rice, bread, pasta, potatoes.

Well, there you have it! I am starting on this journey to detoxify and cleanse, I hope you will join me! My next post will give you 4-6 detox changes without blocking on the Guaifenesin Protocol. Much love to you all <3

  1. Cindy PIeslak says:

I have several low immune problems – I think I will try to skip the guai on Sundays and take the herbs that I know for a fact will help my low immune. I am trying to do the borax protocol to help stabilize my hormones due to having breast cancer which was both estrogen and progesterone positive. It really helped my hot flashes after having them for 17 years.

    • Brenda Caldwell says:

I don’t get hot flashes I’ve just been hot since my 1st partial hysto. I need to look at that borax thing. I had tried some progesterone stuff, no help. Mood swings still bad too. I guess I won’t ask my new gyn about Any replacement therapy after reading Christine’s message. I really need some balance, been whacked out since 3/03. Long 13 yrs, wear sandles & tshirts in the snow.
Good luck to you also on your wellness journey.

      • Christine says:

oh Brenda!! yes, let’s get well together! I think I am going to totally change what I said in this post, it’s NOT a good idea to block for a week! We need to get well on the protocol!

But, if your dr is telling you that you need hormone therapy, don’t take my advice over his! You will know if you are like me and need to stop. It literally made me CRAZY! I was so out of control all the time, awful feeling!

        • Brenda Caldwell says:

Hi Christine. I don’t take any type of hormone therapy. She checked my hormones, which are basically flatlined, and said yep that’s as expected, you are thru menopause, sent me on my way. But my symptoms!!! This isnt normal! I thought she would recommend something to help me. I too had read Suzanne Somers book & was so hopeful about the bioidentical hormones. But nothing! If I stop Sertraline, I am a crying bag of babble unable to even call the dr to get help. I had ran out. I don’t let that happen any more. But I would sure rather not have to take it.

    • Christine says:

Cindy, I advise to not skip on a regular basis like that! THe problem is this_ we will unknowingly block from time to time. And we will unknowingly partially block from time to time! So, to take a day every week where we block, you might totally stop clearing!

Are you sure about your clearing dose? Because doing this will really make it hard to figure that out too.

Only thing I can think of to make that work, is to double up your clearing dose on Mondays each week. If you block one day every week, you need to make up for it on another day. Does that make sense? I just want you to make progress with your clearing and see some positive results!!!

Low immune is SO common with people with fibro. Have you read the book by Dr St Amand? He talks about this in there.

  2. Brenda Caldwell says:

Garlic is a natural antibiotic as well. GNLD makes a great onion/garlic pill & they also have a horseradish blend pill that can really help bladt your sinuses. I found irrigation to be extremely helpful also. I quit drinking milk. Can you get screened for toxins to see what to target? That mold surely didnt help anything either. I’m allergic & get very sick uf it’s anywhere near me. Sinus crazy. Best wishes on your detox Christina!! I hope you find your needed healing. And thanks for sharing.πŸ’œ

    • Christine says:

Thank you Brenda! Yes, I have heard about garlic, but in pill form, it’s too concentrated and is a blocker, so not wanting to do that right now. but you are so right, I was using a neti pot for a while and just stopped for some reason, totally need to start again. I have heard that you don’t want to do it for more than 3 days in a row, then take a day off. Something about letting your nasal return to normal balance again or something. And yep, I prob should stop with dairy, but I love my cream and cheese!! πŸ˜›

      • Brenda Caldwell says:

The saline buffering solution is supposed to be pH balanced & you can use that daily if desired. So unless you are adding something irregular/strange, daily use is fine so long as that is what package directions or your doctor advise. Good luck!

        • Christine says:

oh good to know! Thank you Brenda!!! πŸ™‚ I make my own saline stuff with sea salt, supposed to be the same thing!

          • Brenda Caldwell says:

That’s totally fine. More than 1 recipe. I found a box of premixed. Waterpik SinuSense. Says daily, 2x for max benefit. Nit it has aloe & eucalyptus oil😒

        • Christine says:

that’s good to know! 2x daily, guess I need to get started doing that again! So, my ‘recipe’ is SO easy. 2 cups Distilled water, warmed a little, not hot, stir in 1/2 tsp sea salt. totally works! I tried distilled water without the salt and it REALLY hurt! I was sputtering and hurting all day lol!!

  3. So glad you are addressing these issues on your blog! πŸ™‚ Thank you! I have wondered about using things with more chemicals, now that I can’t use more natural products like things with plants gels, oils, or extracts. I try to stay away from having Splenda and Aspartame every day, but I still do eat it more than I would like to for my health. (It’s hard to find sugar-free alternatives that are low-cost and readily available, as you know!) Right now I’m just trying to give myself some grace to not do it perfectly as I am still in my first year of the protocol. One thing at a time. πŸ™‚ I do hope that you find some great products and ideas for yourself and for all of us that can help us detox while not blocking! If I come across anything in that way I’ll let you know! πŸ™‚

    • Christine says:

I totally agree! One thing at a time! Get used to the protocol and the diet first, THEN worry about toxins! I’ve been on the protocol for almost 5 years now, so it’s time for me to start thinking about these things lol! You just keep doing what you’re doing, soon the protocol and all the changes will start to become second-nature and you will have time in your mind to think about these types of things πŸ™‚

And you will be happy to note that most products with the more ‘natural’ ingredients often still have all the same chemicals in there, and just the natural stuff added as well. Lotions have to have certain ingredients to become lotion, same with soap. The rest is just extras.

I think limiting your sweeteners is a great start! Xylitol is SO much healthier and you can make your own ice cream too! Speaking of… sounds like a good new post! πŸ˜€

  4. Brenda Caldwell says:

Too much xylitol can give you the runs. More than 1 serving a day was it for me. Darn!
